A personal note
I’ve really enjoyed this project!
It was a lot of work but very rewarding! Before beginning, I challenged myself to try to understand the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and what types of poses would truly represent them well. I did this because I could feel the genuine enthusiasm that Molly has and I wanted to give Molly my very best effort. So I watched many videos and examined over 1,000 reference images in the search for the perfect pose.
In the end I was so into this project that I couldn’t paint just one.
I felt that these three with flexed spine, grounded pose, and expressive arms each had a unique energy that I wanted to capture.

I almost always envision my characters engulfed in a happy blaze of light. But with this one, I also kept imagining her in a forest with puddles, rain, and thickets of trees.

The size of this painting is really nice! It's actually larger than it looks, and the bright white background makes Alvin really pop! I struggled with photographing that crisp white background on each image, so just know that in real life, each painting has a crispy white background with a lovely varnished satin sheen. I wasn't completely sure about your wall measurements, so that's also what motivated me to paint a couple extra for you to pick from.
